Characteristics: The American Staffordshire Terrier was originally bred to be friendly towards human. Any AST that shows aggressive behavior, fearlessness, or overly protective behavior is probably a badly bred dog. They should be very friendly, outgoing, and extraordinarily devoted. This breed generally does well with children of all ages, other pets, and cats if sociallized as a puppy. The AST is a loyal companion. |
Temperament: Extremely friendly to humans, protective of their families. The American Staffordshire Terrier is a quick learners, eager to please, loyal, and loving. |
Training: The American Staffordshire Terrier must be socialized at an early age. American Staffordshire Terriers are obedient and have a very strong desire to please their owner. Training should be patient, respectful, and firm. The AST must be taught as a puppy to walk on a leash as they become very strong as adults. ASTs usually house train easily. |
