Coat: The Australian Shepherd has a medium length, double coat. There are eight colors of the Australian Shepherd, blue merle, red merle, black with or without white, red with or without white, tri-colored (copper and white along with the primary color), bi-colored (white or copper along with the primary color), and self-colored (no white or copper are referred)
Care: Minimal grooming required, bathe when needed.
Characteristics: The Australian Shepherd is generally a good dog with children and other pets. They are intelligent, active, and loyal and love to play. There are generally two types of characteristics for this breed, one that was bred for the family, and one that was bred for herding.
Temperament: With a strong herding instinct the dog may nip at other animals or children if not trained properly. They generally need a lot of stimulation to keep them from becoming destructive from boredom. The dogs bred for families are usually more gentle and loving then the type bred for herding.
Training: The Australian Shepherd generally learns obedience training easily, and some excel in agility.

Health Concerns: Collie eye anomaly, cataracts, hip dysplasia, coloboma, and hypothyroidism
